The Municipal Library – Gerðuberg (Branch)

Here you can read books and magazines, browse the internet, meet people, take part in events, view exhibitions, have a cup of coffee, relax and enjoy yourself. You’ll need a library card to borrow books and other materials. Children under eighteen, people with disabilities and senior citizens are eligible for free cards. Others must pay a small fee as listed in the posted price list.
The City Library has six branches throughout Reykjavik as well as the bookmobile called ‘the Chief ‘(bókabíllinn Höfðingi), and the story mobile, named ‘the Jester’ (Æringi). The bookmobile visits nearly forty locations and the story mobile visits preschools and afterschool day-care centres.
The library contains an ample selection of books, fiction and nonfiction, in Icelandic and other languages. Popular films and documentaries are also available. There is also a wide selection of music that includes pop, rock and roll, classical, hip hop, opera and many other varieties. Comic book enthusiasts will enjoy the library’s rapidly expanding comic book section which includes manga (Japanese comic books), the characters Tintin and Asterix among others as well as the various superheroes
The library’s branches offer computer use and internet access for a reasonable fee. Free Wi-Fi access is also available.
