A city within a city
On Laugavegur, just above Hlemmur in the city center, industrial buildings built around the time of the Second World War are currently being demolished. Buildings that housed a locksmith, an open-sandwich shop and a part of one of the largest car dealerships in Iceland, Hekla. After all, the area is attributed to the company Hekla. They will be building 445 apartments on Heklureitur at the corner of Nóatún and Laugarvegur in the next three years. The apartments will be both affordable and small and large and expensive, and everything in between, with good views north over Faxaflói and Esja. Icelandic Times / Land & Saga took a look at the construction, as it is an unusually large residential project so close to the city center.
