Die Insel ist ein gro\u00dfer Fels aus Basalt und saurem Vulkangestein und erhebt sich 160 Meter aus dem Meer. Sie geh\u00f6rt zur Landspitze Vattarnes, wurde 1995 unter Schutz gestellt und ist 530 Meter breit und 590 Meter lang. Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte wurden in Skr\u00fa\u00f0ur viele Eier eingesammelt, da 18 unterschiedliche Vogelarten auf der Insel br\u00fcten. Die Zahl der V\u00f6gel geht in die Hunderttausende. Allein in Skr\u00fa\u00f0ur gibt es zum Beispiel 300.000 Papageientaucher. Zusammen mit dem T\u00f6lpel, der erst 1943 auf der Insel auftauchte, ist er der h\u00e4ufigste Brutvogel. Der Eissturmvogel und die Dreizehenm\u00f6we sind ebenfalls h\u00e4ufige Brutv\u00f6gel auf Skr\u00fa\u00f0ur. Auf der Insel gibt es eine bemerkenswerte H\u00f6hle, Skr\u00fa\u00f0hellir. Sie wird auf ca. 4000\u00a0m<sup>2<\/sup> mit einer L\u00e4nge von 125 Metern und einer Breite von 80 Metern an der breitesten Stelle gesch\u00e4tzt. Viele Papageientaucher br\u00fcten in der H\u00f6hle. Vor Jahrzehnten ruderten Fischer von Skr\u00fa\u00f0ur aus zum Fischfang und wohnten zwischen ihren Touren in der H\u00f6hle.<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_210324\"
