Der Vulkanausbruch in Askja, der am 29. M\u00e4rz 1875 begann, gilt in Island als der gr\u00f6\u00dfte Ascheausbruch der Vergangenheit und als einer der gr\u00f6\u00dften der Welt. Der Ausbruch dauerte nur wenige Stunden und verursachte einen ungeheuren Ascheregen.<\/p>\n<p>Zahlreiche bewohnte Gebiete wurden verlassen und viele Menschen zog es in den Jahren nach dem Ausbruch \u00fcber den Ozean nach Amerika. Heute w\u00fcrde der Flugverkehr unterbrochen und gro\u00dfe Teile der n\u00f6rdlichen und \u00f6stlichen Regionen des Landes m\u00fcssten wom\u00f6glich aufgegeben werden. Es gibt Anzeichen, dass der Vulkan kurz vor dem Ausbruch steht.
