Juni 1783 am Berg Laki s\u00fcdwestlich von Vatjaj\u00f6kull in Vestur-Skaftafellss\u00fdsla begann. Der Ausbruch geschah auf einer 25 km langen Reihe von Kratern, den Laki-Kratern, die rund 135 Krater umfasst, und dauerte acht Monate. Das Lavafeld, das Skaft\u00e1reldar Lavafeld, ist das zweitgr\u00f6\u00dfte der Geschichte. Die Gesamtmenge der Lava betr\u00e4gt rund 13 km 3 und das Gebiet bedeckt 580 km 2. Die Lava hat tats\u00e4chlich zwei Namen. Der westliche Teil hei\u00dft Eldhraun, der \u00f6stliche Brunahraun.<\/p>\n<p>Die Laki-Krater wurden 1971 unter Schutz gestellt und sind nun Teil des Vatnaj\u00f6kull Nationalparks. Asche und Vulkand\u00e4mpfe haben viel Dunst und Nebel \u00fcber Island verursacht, Nebel, der sich sp\u00e4ter auch \u00fcber Europa, Amerika und Ostasien ausgebreitet hat. Ein starke Verschmutzung ging mit dem Dunst einher, sodass viel Vieh gestorben ist, was wiederum zu einer Hungersnot nicht nur hier, sondern auf der gesamten Nordhalbkugel gef\u00fchrt hat. Dies waren die M\u00f3\u00f0uhar\u00f0indi, die gro\u00dfen Katastrophen, die \u00fcber die Isl\u00e4nder davor und seitdem hereingebrochen sind. Rund 20 % der Bev\u00f6lkerung starb in den M\u00f3\u00f0uhar\u00f0indi. Und das ist noch nicht allzu lange her. Werden wir bald wieder einen solchen Ausbruch erleben?
