Vor fast 250 Jahren, am 8. Juni 1783, fand einer der gr\u00f6\u00dften Vulkanausbr\u00fcche in der Geschichte der Menschheit in Vestur-Skaftafellss\u00fdsla statt, als sich ein nahezu 30 km langer Spalt auftat und Gas, Feuer und Schwefel bis zu 1000 m in die Luft spuckte. Der Ausbruch h\u00f6rte fast ein Jahr sp\u00e4ter auf und brachte eine Hungerskatastrophe f\u00fcr das ganze Land und sogar f\u00fcr die ganze Welt mit sich, da drei Viertel des Viehs gestorben waren. Zwei weitere Ausbr\u00fcche zur gleichen Zeit, einer in Eldey in Reykjanes, der andere in Gr\u00edmsv\u00f6tn in Vatnaj\u00f6kull, haben die Situation nicht verbessert. Heute ist es wundersch\u00f6n in Lakag\u00edgar, da mittlerweile Moos die Lava auf einer Fl\u00e4che von nicht weniger als 600 km\u00b2 bedeckt, das hei\u00dft, zwei Drittel der gesamten Halbinsel Reykjanes, wo heute noch Vulkanausbr\u00fcche stattfinden. Lakag\u00edgar ist Teil des Nationalparks Vatnaj\u00f6kull.<\/p>\n
