Laut dem \u201eBuch der Besiedlungen\u201c waren die ersten Menschen, die sich in Island niederlie\u00dfen, Hallger\u00f0ur Fr\u00f3\u00f0ad\u00f3ttir und Ing\u00f3lfur Arnarson aus Westnorwegen, zusammen mit ihrer Familie und irischen (g\u00e4lischen) Sklaven. Die isl\u00e4ndische Nation war mehr als Jahrtausend vorwiegend nordisch, mit einigen wenigen Kelten. Vor etwa 300 Jahren gab es 57.717 Isl\u00e4nder. H\u00e4tte es keine H\u00e4rtezeiten wie die gro\u00dfe Hungerskatastrophe im Jahr 1783 oder die Massenabwanderung aufgrund der Schwierigkeiten Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts gegeben, l\u00e4ge Islands Bev\u00f6lkerung gem\u00e4\u00df Berechnungen der Geschichtsprofessoren an der Universit\u00e4t Island, Gu\u00f0mundur J\u00f3nsson and Helgi Sk\u00fali Kjartansson, heute bei rund 1,2 Millionen.<\/p>\n<p>Statistics Iceland hat aktuelle Zahlen vom Landesregister ver\u00f6ffentlicht, die eine Bev\u00f6lkerungszahl von 398.665 angeben. Der Anteil ausl\u00e4ndischer B\u00fcrger in dem Land hat 18,7 % erreicht. Den h\u00f6chsten Anteil verzeichnet dabei die s\u00fcdlichste Gemeinde\u00a0 M\u00fdrdalshreppi, wo 61,7 % der Bewohner aus dem Ausland stammen. In Reykjav\u00edk, der gr\u00f6\u00dften Gemeinde in Island, ist fast jeder Vierte (22,3 % der Bev\u00f6lkerung) ein ausl\u00e4ndischer B\u00fcrger. In Reyknanesb\u00e6r, der Gemeinde mit der viertgr\u00f6\u00dften Bev\u00f6lkerung,\u00a0 hat nur jeder Dritte (33,1 %) eine ausl\u00e4ndische Nationalit\u00e4t. Die kleinste und entfernteste Gemeinde in Island, \u00c1rneshreppur, die sich n\u00f6rdlich von Strandir in den Westfjorden befindet, hat den geringsten Anteil an ausl\u00e4ndischen B\u00fcrgern. Er liegt nur bei 3,8 % bzw. kommen 2 der 53 Einwohner, die dort im Norden leben, aus dem Ausland.<\/p>\n<p>Der Zugang zu einer guten Gesundheitsversorgung ist in einer schnell wachsenden und alternden Nation \u00e4u\u00dferst wichtig. Um diesen Bedarf zu erf\u00fcllen, wird aktuell ein neues Landeskrankenhaus in Hringbraut gebaut, das gr\u00f6\u00dfte Bauvorhaben in der Geschichte Islands.
