Wenn ich mich mit Personen unterhalte, die Island zum ersten Mal besuchen, dann treffe ich oft auf ein Gef\u00fchlvon Ungl\u00e4ubigkeit. Wie kann es m\u00f6glich sein, dass ein so kleines Land so viel zu sehen hat und so viele verschiedene Aktivit\u00e4ten bietet? Wie kann eine Bev\u00f6lkerung, die in anderen L\u00e4ndern eher als Dorf
\nklassifiziert wird, so viel erreichen und woher nehmen sie die Zeit daf\u00fcr? Island ist ein Land, wo der Kampf zum \u00dcberleben ein Volk von Pionieren und Entdeckern hervorgebracht hat, die bereit sind, neues
\nauszuprobieren \u2013 und es auch tun. Wenn Vulkanausbr\u00fcche die Bev\u00f6lkerung in der Vergangenheit dezimiert haben, haben sich die \u00dcberlebenden zusammengeschlossen und daf\u00fcr gek\u00e4mpft, dass alles wieder aufgebaut wird, und haben alles versucht, wieder auf eigenen Beinen zu stehen.<\/p>\n

Nachdem Island am Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts als \u00e4rmstes Land in Europa eingestuft wurde, war es kein leichtes Unterfangen sich zu einer modernen, erfolgreichen Gesellschaft zu entwickeln. Doch es gab der Bev\u00f6lkerung eine ermutigende Zielstrebigkeit das Beste aus dem zu machen, was man hat. Angef\u00fchrt von einem furchtlosen Sohn eines Pastors in einer der abgelegensten Regionen Islands, der den Grundstein
\nlegte f\u00fcr Islands Unabh\u00e4ngigkeit durch die St\u00e4rke seiner Argumente, Wissen \u00fcber die Gesetze, Redekunst und Beharrlichkeit – und nicht durch Waffengewalt, wie es von anderen revolution\u00e4ren Bewegungen zum Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts bevorzugt wurde, steuerte Island auf eine neue \u00c4ra zu.<\/p>\n

Heute findet man erstaunliche Erfolgsgeschichten, die jeden Aspekt der Gesellschaft durchdringen, Geschichten, die man erleben kann wenn man den Leuten begegnet. Von Kunst bis Musik, von Landwirtschaft
\nbis Mode, von Fu\u00dfball bis Pferdereiten, von Walbeobachtungen zu Superjeeptouren auf Gletschern, von Messerherstellung zu Restaurants, hier wird man Isl\u00e4nder finden, die eine Leidenschaft und Liebe f\u00fcr ihr
\nHandwerk haben, und den Wunsch dies mit anderen zu teilen.<\/p>\n
