Vulkanausbruch von 1973<\/h5>\n

Am Morgen des 23. Januar 1973 hat ein Vulkanausbruch das Leben der Menschen, die die Westm\u00e4nnerinsel ihr Zuhause nennen, von Grund auf ver\u00e4ndert. Der Ausbruch, der ohne Vorwarnung kam und f\u00fcnf Monate dauerte, hat mehr als 3000 Isl\u00e4nder vertrieben. Vulkanasche ging wochenlang nieder und zerst\u00f6rte H\u00e4user, Vieh und pers\u00f6nliche Besitzt\u00fcmer. Die meisten Einwohner von Heimaey verlie\u00dfen das Gebiet per Boot und zum Gl\u00fcck gab es keine Toten zu beklagen. Nach dem Ausbruch hat sich ein Vulkankegel gebildet, der Eldfell, was \u201eFeuerberg\u201c bedeutet. Er ist 200 Meter hoch und z\u00e4hlt zum neuesten Land Islands. Heute wandern Isl\u00e4nder wie auch Touristen in die Region und erfreuen sich an der Szenerie.<\/p>\n

Eldheimar Museum<\/h5>\n

Eldheimar ist ein faszinierendes, interaktives Museum zum Vulkanausbruch von 1973. Es zeigt Fotos, Geb\u00e4udereste und eine \u00dcbersicht \u00fcber die vulkanische Geologie der Region. Videos illustrieren die Gewalt des Vulkanausbruchs und die Zerst\u00f6rung, die er hinterlassen hat. Karten leuchten an den W\u00e4nden auf und zeigen die Standorte der Vulkane auf der Insel.<\/p>\n

Die Sammlung w\u00e4chst kontinuierlich. Anfang dieses Jahres bekam Eldheimar zur Konservierung einen bemerkenswerten Film, den der Geologe Ingvar Birgir Fri\u00f0leifsson in den ersten Tagen des Ausbruchs gedreht hat. Damals machte er seine Promotion in Geologie in Oxford. Am Tag nach dem Ausbruch lud der Direktor der geologischen Fakult\u00e4t ihn ein, nach Heimaey zu reisen, um das Ereignis dort f\u00fcr die Wissenschaft in einem Film festzuhalten.<\/p>\n

N\u00e4he zum Festland<\/h5>\n

Besucher gelangen mit der Herj\u00f3lfur-F\u00e4hre zur Insel. Sie verkehrt t\u00e4glich zwischen Mai und September. Reisende k\u00f6nnen gegen eine Zusatzgeb\u00fchr auch ihre Autos mitnehmen. Das ist jedoch nicht n\u00f6tig, da die Insel sehr klein ist. Die Herj\u00f3lfur-F\u00e4hre startet in Landeyjah\u00f6fn in S\u00fcdisland und f\u00e4hrt rund 40 Minuten. Es ist also eine kurze, unkomplizierte \u00dcberfahrt.

Daf\u00fcr, dass die Insel so klein ist, gibt es dort<\/h5>\n

zahlreiche Aktivit\u00e4ten und Attraktionen zu erleben, zum Beispiel Bootstouren, RIB-Safaris und Quad-Touren. Au\u00dferdem k\u00f6nnen Fahrr\u00e4der geliehen und Naturbeobachtungen unternommen werden. Tats\u00e4chlich ist die Population der Papageientaucher auf den Westm\u00e4nnerinseln die Hauptattraktion f\u00fcr Zehntausende von Besuchern, da ihre orangefarbenen F\u00fc\u00dfe, runden K\u00f6rper und gestreiften Schn\u00e4bel einfach faszinierend sind und sie zum inoffiziellen Maskottchen von Island machen. Ein Spaziergang an den Meeresklippen ist zauberhaft. Verbringen Sie etwas Zeit mit den liebenswerten V\u00f6geln, fotografieren Sie sie und bestaunen Sie die Landschaft.<\/p>\n

Die Hauptsaison, um Papageientaucher zu beobachten, ist von Juni bis August. Wenn Sie also im Sommer nach Island reisen, sollten Sie unbedingt einen Zwischenstopp auf den Westm\u00e4nnerinseln einlegen.<\/p>\n

Die Ankunft des Kleinen Grauen und des Kleinen Wei\u00dfen, zwei Belugas, die 2019 von China nach Island umgezogen sind, sind nun in Vestmannaeyjar zu Hause. Der Sea Life Trust, eine gemeinn\u00fctzige Organisation, ist f\u00fcr das Schutzgebiet verantwortlich. G\u00e4ste k\u00f6nnen eine Bootstour in der Bucht mitmachen, in der die Wale ihre neue Heimat gefunden haben.<\/p>\n

Die Westm\u00e4nnerinseln laden bei einem Besuch im S\u00fcden Islands zum Verweilen ein. Es gibt zahlreiche Hotels, Ferienh\u00e4user und Restaurants. Im Eldheimar Museum gibt es zudem eine Ausstellung zur VULKANINSEL SURTSEY. Sie entstand w\u00e4hrend eines Ausbruchs, der am 14. November 1963 begann und ungef\u00e4hr vier Jahre dauerte. Heute ist Surtsey ein einzigartiges Naturwunder, das von der UNESCO als Weltkulturerbe gef\u00fchrt wird.<\/p>\n
