Er wurde am Weltfrauentag, dem 19. Juni, er\u00f6ffnet, um die Pionierinnen der isl\u00e4ndischen Bildhauerei zu ehren. Der Garten, der zum Kunstmuseum Reykjav\u00edk geh\u00f6rt, verdankt seinen Namen dem Performance-Kollektiv Gj\u00f6rningakl\u00fabburinn (Isl\u00e4ndische Liebesgesellschaft). Der Titel bezieht sich auf die kreisf\u00f6rmige Anordnung der Werke von sechs Frauen, die Vorreiterinnen der Bildhauerei in Island waren: Gunnfr\u00ed\u00f0ur J\u00f3nsd\u00f3ttir (1889\u20131968), N\u00edna S\u00e6mundsson (1892\u20131962), Tove \u00d3lafsson (1909\u20131992), \u00deorbj\u00f6rg P\u00e1lsd\u00f3ttir (1919\u20132009), \u00d3l\u00f6f P\u00e1lsd\u00f3ttir (1920) und Ger\u00f0ur Helgad\u00f3ttir (1928\u20131975). Die ausgestellten Skulpturen sind: Die Siedlerfrau von Gunnfr\u00ed\u00f0ur, Die Meerjungfrau von N\u00edna, Mann und Frau von Tove, Junge und M\u00e4dchen von \u00deorbj\u00f6rg, Der Sohn von \u00d3l\u00f6f und Der Bohrer von Ger\u00f0ur. Dar\u00fcber hinaus Gunnfr\u00ed\u00f0urs Werk \u201eAuf dem Heimweg\u201c befindet sich \u00f6stlich des Teichs \u2013 ein Bild, in dem die Frau \u00fcber die Teichm\u00fcndung nach Westen in Richtung der Perlenkette blickt.
