Einst war Grandi eine Insel, die durch einen bei Ebbe begehbaren Strand mit dem Festland verbunden war. Sie lag westlich von Kvosin, dem Ort, an dem die Besiedlung Islands ihren Anfang nahm. Heute ist Grandi durch umfangreiche Landgewinnung deutlich vergr\u00f6\u00dfert worden, und \u00d6rfirisey bildet den westlichsten Teil des Hafens von Reykjav\u00edk. Es dient als wichtigstes Einkaufsgebiet f\u00fcr Lebensmittel im westlichen Teil der Stadt und ist gleichzeitig ein pulsierendes Zentrum der Fischereiindustrie \u2013 hier sind zwei gro\u00dfe Fischereiunternehmen ans\u00e4ssig. <br\/>In dem Gebiet befinden sich auch die nationalen \u00d6lreserven; es lockt Touristen mit seinen Sehensw\u00fcrdigkeiten, Restaurants und zahlreichen Museen an.<br\/>\u00d6rfirisey und Grandi bilden heute ein lebhaftes &#8222;Dorf&#8220; im Herzen der Hauptstadt: eine k\u00fcnstlich aufgesch\u00fcttete Halbinsel mit nur einem Wohnblock und einer d\u00fcnnen, aber lebhaften Bev\u00f6lkerung, wo sich Touristen und Einheimische auf einer fast vollst\u00e4ndig von Menschenhand geformten Insel mischen. Die Landgewinnung hat den Hafen sicherer und effizienter gemacht und ein aufregendes neues Viertel westlich des Stadtzentrums entstehen lassen.
