Sie ist mit den kostbaren Bohnen aufgewachsen, auf der Plantage ihres Vaters in Haiti, wo der Kaffee das Leben der Familie bestimmte, und sie hat von Kindesbeinen an gelernt, Kaffeebohnen auf Qualit\u00e4t zu \u201elesen\u201c, so ganz nebenbei. \u201eIch habe meiner Mutter Kaffee zubereitet, seit ich denken kann,\u201c l\u00e4chelt sie versonnen, \u201eUnd meinem Vater die Pfeife gestopft. Und am liebsten hab ich f\u00fcr alle gekocht.\u201c<br \/>\nEin wenig ist das immer noch so.<\/p>\n<p>Heute lebt die 42-J\u00e4hrige in Reykjav\u00edk und betreibt am alten Hafen das <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CafeHaiti?fref=ts\">Cafe Haiti<\/a>, wo es t\u00e4glich frisch gebrannten Kaffee aus Haiti und Guatemala gibt, selbstgebackene Kuchen und Eintopfgerichte nach Art der Kreolen. In ihrer gerade mal 3 Quadratmeter grossen, saubergescheuerten K\u00fcche h\u00e4ngen alte T\u00f6pfe und Pfannen von der Decke, Gew\u00fcrzdosen, Kochl\u00f6ffel, ein Waffeleisen. Mehr braucht sie nicht. \u201eIch koche alles frisch. Da brauchst du doch nur Salz, Zwiebel und Zitrone f\u00fcr den Fisch.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Elda ist eine echte Unternehmerin. \u201eIch hab noch nie gut rumsitzen k\u00f6nnen\u201c gesteht sie. Mit 15 verliess sie die Schule und tauchte ein ins Arbeitsleben. Sie lernte kochen, n\u00e4hen, ging zur Universit\u00e4t, war Leiterin einer selbstgegr\u00fcndeten Grundschule im Armenviertel von Port-au-Prince. Hier traf sie auch den Mann, der ihr Leben ver\u00e4ndern sollte \u2013 Meth\u00fasalem (D\u00fai) \u00de\u00f3risson arbeitete in Haiti f\u00fcr die Humanistische Bewegung. Sie heirateten und entschieden im Jahr 2007, zugunsten von Eldas Sohn aus erster Ehe, in D\u00fais Heimat Island zur\u00fcckzugehen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201eIch bin mit 2 Kilo gebranntem Kaffee und 20 Kilo rohen Bohnen nach Island gekommen,\u201c erinnert sie sich. Mit den Bohnen fing alles an. Sie stellte sich auf Handwerks- und Bauernm\u00e4rkte, bot den Leuten eine Tasse frischgebr\u00fchten haitianischen Kaffee zum Probieren an, und in einer Behelfsmaschine ger\u00f6stete Kaffeebohnen zum Kauf. Sie fand ein kleines Ladenlokal im Stadtteil Mj\u00f3dd &#8211; ihr erster eigener Kaffeeladen in einem Land, das guten Kaffee erst noch kennenlernen wollte.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/icetimes.xnet.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Cafe_Haiti_beans.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6628\" src=\"https:\/\/icetimes.xnet.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Cafe_Haiti_beans-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Cafe_Haiti_beans\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/icelandictimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Cafe_Haiti_beans-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/icelandictimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Cafe_Haiti_beans-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/icelandictimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Cafe_Haiti_beans.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Im Jahr 2011 entschieden Elda und D\u00fai, ihr Kaffih\u00fas an den alten Hafen von Reykjav\u00edk zu verlegen. Sie bezogen ein gr\u00f6sseres Lokal mit mehr Sitzgelegenheiten, an einem Ort, der sich inzwischen, m\u00f6glicherweise sogar durch das Caf\u00e9, zu einem kulturellen Subzentrum gemausert hat.<\/p>\n<p>Caf\u00e9 Haiti ist heute in Reykjav\u00edk bekannt f\u00fcr Gem\u00e4ldeausstellungen und Live-Konzerte. Die B\u00fchne des Caf\u00e9s ist klein, die Atmosph\u00e4re umso einladender, und Musiker wie der Jazz-Bassist T\u00f3mas Einarsson, die Bluesrocker von S\u00ed\u00f0asti Sjens, die Folkband Skuggamyndir fr\u00e1 Bysan oder die isl\u00e4ndische S\u00e4ngerin Ragnhei\u00f0ur Gr\u00f6ndal wissen das sehr zu sch\u00e4tzen.<\/p>\n<p>Seit D\u00fai im vergangenen Jahr \u00fcberraschend verstarb, managt Elda ihr Caf\u00e9 alleine. R\u00f6stet Kaffee, kocht delikate Suppen und versendet ihre Bohnen landesweit per Post. Eine harte Zeit liegt hinter ihr, doch sie hat den schweren Verlust verarbeiten k\u00f6nnen und kann wieder positiv in die Zukunft schauen. Probleme wegen ihrer Hautfarbe oder Herkunft hatte sie in Island noch nie. Gegen schlechtes Wetter hilft vor allem drinnen bleiben. Und der brummende Vulkan irgendwo im \u00f6stlichen Hochland macht ihr keine Angst.<br \/>\n\u201eIch f\u00fchle mich sehr wohl in Island\u201c, sagt sie. \u201eDer beste Ort, wenn du mich fragst. In Haiti kannst du doch nicht mal auf die Strasse gehen, ohne um dein Leben zu f\u00fcrchten. Hier ist alles sicher, und die Leute waren von Anfang an freundlich zu mir.\u201c<br \/>\nReykjav\u00edks Pflaster scheint wie gemacht f\u00fcr mutige und zupackende Frauen.
