Cette r\u00e9gion se d\u00e9ploie \u00e0 l\u00b4Est, depuis le Parc National de Skaftafell jusqu\u00b4\u00e0 la ville de H\u00f6fn, sur sa fronti\u00e8re orientale. Jusque dans les ann\u00e9es 70, celle-ci \u00e9tait l&rsquo;une des parties les plus isol\u00e9es de l&rsquo;Islande. En effet, la route N\u00b01, aujourd\u00b4hui circulaire, n\u00b4existait pas encore dans cette r\u00e9gion. La vie des habitants de la r\u00e9gion s\u00b4est forg\u00e9e et adapt\u00e9e aux pr\u00e9ceptes de la nature. Aujourd\u00b4hui, la majorit\u00e9 de ses 2100 habitants, vivent et travaillent \u00e0 H\u00f6fn, ville qui concentre la plus grande partie des habitants de la r\u00e9gion. Les paysages \u00e0 perte de vue, les \u00e9tendues de sables noirs de Skei\u00f0ar\u00e1sandur, vers le glacier Skaftfellj\u00f6kull, mettent en \u00e9vidence l\u00b4immensit\u00e9 du glacier, aussi grand que la superficie de la Corse. Ceux que l\u00b4on trouve en Norv\u00e8ge et en Russie sont beaucoup plus petits. Il est \u00e9galement le plus grand glacier au monde, en dehors des calottes polaires. La r\u00e9gion regroupe les points le plus haut et le plus bas d\u00b4Islande. Le glacier recouvre la plus haute montagne d\u00b4Islande, le Hvannadalshn\u00fakur, qui culmine \u00e0 2115 m\u00e8tres d\u00b4altitude. Le fond de J\u00f6kuls\u00e1rl\u00f3n, la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre lagune glaciaire, est le point le plus bas, \u00e0 260 m\u00e8tres sous le niveau de la mer. Quoi de plus magique que de se relaxer dans les sources chaudes g\u00e9othermales \u00e0 Hoffell, \u00e9clair\u00e9 par le soleil de minuit?
