La statue de Leif fut offerte en cadeau par les \u00c9tats-Unis \u00e0 l\u2019occasion du mill\u00e9naire du parlement de l\u2019Al\u00feingi en 1930. Elle fut sculpt\u00e9e par Alexander Stirling Calder, vainqueur d\u2019une comp\u00e9tition ayant eu lieu en 1929, dont le but \u00e9tait de sculpter Leif le chanceux. N\u00e9 \u00e0 Dalas\u00fdsla en 980, Leifur Eir\u00edksson fut le premier homme blanc \u00e0 poser le pied dans l\u2018Ouest.
