Elle prend sa source \u00e0 Eir\u00edksj\u00f6kul et Langj\u00f6kul, dans plusieurs rivi\u00e8res qui ont un point de confluent plus loin. On y peut p\u00eacher bien que ses certains de ses affluents soient plus riches en poisson. Gr\u00edms\u00e1, \u00dever\u00e1 et Kjarr\u00e1 qui se jettent dans Hv\u00edt\u00e1 ont les eaux \u00e0 saumon les plus ch\u00e8res et les plus riches du pays. Le pont traversant Hv\u00edt\u00e1, situ\u00e9 sur la route 510 \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 de Ferjubakki dans le fjord de Borgarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur fut con\u00e7u par \u00c1rni P\u00e1lsson, ing\u00e9nieur \u00e0 Vegager\u00f0in, organisme en charge de g\u00e9rer le r\u00e9seau routier. Le pont, long de 106 m\u00e8tres et \u00e0 voie unique, fut \u00e9lu monument remarquable du si\u00e8cle dernier par l\u2019Association des ing\u00e9nieurs islandais.
