Le parc national de \u00deingvellir fut d\u00e9clar\u00e9 par la loi premier parc national en Islande \u00e0 l\u2018occasion de la c\u00e9l\u00e9bration du mill\u00e9naire de l\u2018Al\u00feingi en 1930. La loi stipule que le site de \u00deingvellir et la rivi\u00e8re \u00d6xar\u00e1 doivent \u00eatre sanctuaris\u00e9s pour l\u2019ensemble de la population islandaise, et que le territoire prot\u00e9g\u00e9 doit \u00eatre la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 de la nation islandaise \u00e0 vie. Ses terres ne peuvent \u00eatre ni hypoth\u00e9qu\u00e9es, ni mises en vente. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, comme c\u2019est le cas aujourd\u2019hui avec le parc national des Hautes terres qui verra bient\u00f4t le jour, il y eut de grandes manifestations visant \u00e0 prot\u00e9ger le territoire de \u00deingvellir. L\u2019id\u00e9e d\u2019\u00e9tablir des parcs nationaux est arriv\u00e9e en Europe et \u00e0 l\u2019ouest des \u00c9tats-Unis o\u00f9 de vastes zones inhabit\u00e9es furent prot\u00e9g\u00e9es pour les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations \u00e0 venir. Un million de touristes visitent \u00deingvellir chaque ann\u00e9e\u00a0; cette perle d\u2019histoire et de nature n\u2019a pas d\u2019\u00e9quivalent ailleurs. En 2004, \u00deingvellir fut le premier site ou monument culturel islandais \u00e0 \u00eatre inscrit sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO. Le site se trouve qu\u2019\u00e0 environ une heure de route de la capitale.<\/p>\n
