Elle porte le nom de Louis-Ren\u00e9 Levassor, comte de Latouche-Tr\u00e9ville, n\u00e9 en 1745 \u00e0 Rochefort d\u2019une famille de marins. Garde de la marine en 1758, enseigne de vaisseau en 1768, il a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la guerre d\u2019ind\u00e9pendance des Etats-Unis comme commandant de l\u2019Hermione (vaisseau dont une r\u00e9plique vient d&rsquo;\u00eatre construite). Directeur des ports et des arsenaux en 1784, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9put\u00e9 de la noblesse aux \u00e9tats-g\u00e9n\u00e9raux en 1789. Contre-amiral en 1793, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 emprisonn\u00e9 sous la Terreur puis lib\u00e9r\u00e9 l\u2019ann\u00e9e suivante. Il a command\u00e9 la flottille de Boulogne qu\u2019il a d\u00e9fendue contre l\u2019Angleterre.
