Cet archipel magnifique est \u00e0 la fois caract\u00e9ris\u00e9 par une culture vibrante et c\u2019est aussi une terre d\u2019accueil pour de nombreuses esp\u00e8ces d\u2019oiseaux. Comptant moins de 5 000 habitants, cette petite communaut\u00e9 est baign\u00e9e par la beaut\u00e9 des paysages alentours. Cette ann\u00e9e marque le cinquantenaire de l\u2019\u00e9ruption qui d\u00e9vasta l\u2019\u00eele. Photo : Baju Wijono<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h5>L\u2019\u00e9ruption volcanique de 1973<\/h5>\n<p>Le matin du 23 janvier 1973, une \u00e9ruption volcanique bouleversa la vie d\u2019Islandais habitant sur les \u00eeles Vestmann. L\u2019\u00e9ruption, qui survint soudainement, dura cinq mois et d\u00e9pla\u00e7a plus de 3 000 personnes. Les cendres de l\u2019\u00e9ruption sont tomb\u00e9es pendant des semaines, d\u00e9truisant des maisons, tuant du b\u00e9tail et endommageant du mat\u00e9riel. La plupart des habitants d\u2019Heimaey fuirent en bateau mais heureusement, il n\u2019y eut aucun d\u00e9c\u00e8s. Suite \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9ruption, un c\u00f4ne volcanique nomm\u00e9 Eldfell, \u00ab montagne de feu \u00bb en islandais, se forma. Il s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve \u00e0 200 m\u00e8tres d\u2019altitude et fait partie des terres les plus jeunes d\u2019Islande. On y trouve des photos, des ruines de b\u00e2timents et une pr\u00e9sentation de la g\u00e9ologie volcanique de la r\u00e9gion. Des vid\u00e9os illustrent la puissance de l\u2019\u00e9ruption et la destruction laiss\u00e9e dans son sillage, tandis que des cartes s\u2019illuminent sur les murs pour indiquer les volcans situ\u00e9s autour de l\u2019\u00eele.<\/p>\n<p>La collection ne cesse de s\u2019agrandir. Plus t\u00f4t cette ann\u00e9e, Eldheimar a re\u00e7u, \u00e0 des fins de pr\u00e9servation, un film remarquable tourn\u00e9 par le g\u00e9ologue Ingvar Birgir Fri\u00f0leifsson durant les premiers jours de l\u2019\u00e9ruption. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, il faisait son doctorat en g\u00e9ologie \u00e0 Oxford. Le lendemain du d\u00e9but de l\u2019\u00e9ruption, le directeur du d\u00e9partement de g\u00e9ologie de l\u2019universit\u00e9 l\u2019invita \u00e0 se rendre \u00e0 Heimaey dans le but de filmer et documenter cet \u00e9v\u00e9nement dans le cadre de recherches scientifiques ult\u00e9rieures. \u00c0 partir du mois de juillet cet \u00e9t\u00e9, les \u00eeles Vestmann c\u00e9l\u00e8breront le cinquantenaire de la fin de l\u2019\u00e9ruption. Des festivit\u00e9s seront organis\u00e9es au mus\u00e9e Eldheimar, notamment une exposition d\u2019art qui mettra en lumi\u00e8re les travaux de deux artistes talentueux islandais : la sculptrice et peintre Hulda H\u00e1kon et le peintre J\u00f3n \u00d3skar. Un concert et la lecture de r\u00e9cits seront \u00e9galement propos\u00e9s par un natif de l\u2019\u00eele, G\u00edsli Helgason, et son groupe. \u00c0 l\u2019occasion d\u2019un autre concert, Magn\u00fas R. Pour un co\u00fbt suppl\u00e9mentaire, les voyageurs peuvent faire la travers\u00e9e avec leur voiture, cependant, ce n\u2019est pas n\u00e9cessaire compte tenu de la petite taille de l\u2019\u00eele. On peut y faire notamment des sorties en bateau, en zodiac, des tours en quad, emprunter les chemins de randonn\u00e9e, louer des v\u00e9los et se rendre sur le spots d\u2019observation de la faune.<\/p>\n<p>Mais la principale attraction de l\u2019\u00eele est en fait la population de macareux, qui attire des dizaines de milliers de visiteurs. Difficile en effet de r\u00e9sister \u00e0 leurs petites pattes orange vif, leurs corps ronds et leurs becs ray\u00e9s. Ils sont m\u00eame devenus la mascotte non officielle de l\u2019Islande. Il est agr\u00e9able de se promener le long des falaises et de passer du temps \u00e0 admirer ces adorables oiseaux, les photographier tout en profitant du paysage. Little Grey et Little White, deux b\u00e9lougas provenant de Chine sont arriv\u00e9s en Islande en 2019, et ont d\u00e9sormais trouv\u00e9 refuge l\u00e0-bas. Sea Life Trust, une organisation \u00e0 but non lucratif, est \u00e0 l\u2019origine de la cr\u00e9ation du sanctuaire.
