Cette r\u00e9gion offre des merveilles g\u00e9ologiques telles que Geysir\u00a0; les cascades de Gullfoss, H\u00e1ifoss, Sk\u00f3gafoss, Systra et Seljalandsfoss ; le parc national de \u00deingvellir, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 les plaques tectoniques fissurent la terre ; le Vatnaj\u00f6kull, le plus grand glacier d&rsquo;Europe, aussi grand que la Corse\u00a0; les volcans de renomm\u00e9e mondiale comme l\u00b4Hekla, qui signifie le passage vers l&rsquo;enfer, le Lakag\u00edgar, le Laki, dont l\u00b4\u00e9ruption de 1783 est vue comme une des cause de la R\u00e9volution francaise, l&rsquo; Eyjafjallaj\u00f6kull qui a clou\u00e9 au sol tous les avions europ\u00e9ens en 2010, et le Katla G\u00e9oparc ; de magnifiques sites comme \u00de\u00f3rsm\u00f6rk et la lagune glaciaire de J\u00f6kuls\u00e1rl\u00f3n. Les sites historiques sont nombreux dans la r\u00e9gion. \u00deingvellir \u00e9tait le si\u00e8ge du parlement islandais, le plus vieux au monde\u00a0; de nombreux mus\u00e9es retracent des \u00e9pisodes de l\u00b4Histoire islandaise, comme le centre de Saga \u00e0 Hvolsv\u00f6llur. Les villages anciens comme Eyrarbakki et les \u00e9glises sont \u00e9galement des tr\u00e9sors d\u00b4histoire. Les activit\u00e9s abondent dans la r\u00e9gion. Des excursions sont possibles vers tous les sites r\u00e9put\u00e9s, y compris sur les glaciers. Les sorties \u00e0 cheval sont tr\u00e8s pris\u00e9es.
