  3. Le nom B\u00e1r\u00f0abunga, signifie la \u201ebosse de B\u00e1r\u00f0ur\u201c<\/strong>, du nom d\u00b4un des premiers colon d\u00b4Islande du nom de Gn\u00fapa-B\u00e1r\u00f0ur.<\/li>\n

Le 14 Septembre 1950, un avion Douglas C-54 Skymaster appartenant \u00e0 la compagnie a\u00e9rienne islandaise Loftleidir (aujourd\u2019hui Icelandair) d\u00fb effectuer un atterrissage d\u00b4urgence<\/strong> sur le glacier Vatnaj\u00f6kull, \u00e0 B\u00e1r\u00f0abunga, ne faisant aucun bless\u00e9s. L\u00b4\u00e9quipage f\u00fbt secouru par un USAF C-47 \u00e9quip\u00e9 de ski mais celui-ci ne r\u00e9ussit pas \u00e0 red\u00e9coller. Une patrouille \u00e0 ski d\u00b4Akureyri vint les secourir 6 jours plus tard. En 1951, le C47 f\u00fbt remorqu\u00e9 vers le bas de la montagne par 2 bulldozeur avant de red\u00e9coller pour Reykjavik. La carcasse du C54 se trouve toujours dans la caldeira du B\u00e1r\u00f0abunga<\/li>\n
