Innan friðlandsins eru meðal annars Landmannalaugar, Hrafntinnusker, Torfajökull og Rauðfossafjöll, allt svæði sem eru einstök, og sérstök. Svæðið liggur hátt, frá tæplega 500 metra hæð og yfir þúsund metrana, með ótal litbrigðum, hraunum, jökulvötnum, og fallegum tindum. Hálendið í hnotskurn.
