Leiðin er ótrúlega fjölbreytt, bæði í gróðufari og fjölbreytileika. Fyrsta skráða ferðin var farin af Ferðafélagi Íslands haustið 1978, síðan hafa tugir þúsunda farið þessa fjögurra daga göngu með Ferðafélaginu, eða á eigin vegum.
