Þarna endar suðurland, og austurland, eystri helmingur landsins byrjar. Þessi núpur, fjall rís tæplega 800 metra upp af vestanverðum Skeiðarársandi. Frá Lómagnúpi, sem er tiltölulega auðveldur uppgöngu er frábært útsýni austur yfir Skeiðarársand yfir Skeiðarárjökul, að Grímsvötnum og á hæsta tind landsins, Hvannadalshnjúk í Öræfajökli.
