Hann var nemandi í Myndlista og handíðaskólanum 1966 – 71, en stundaði síðan framhaldsnám við Listaakademíuna í Stokkhólmi. Hann var formaður SÍM, Sambands íslenskra myndlistarmanna, (þrjú ár, og fyrir fjórum árum stofnaði hann Gallerí Grjót við Skólavörðustíg ásamt Jónínu Guðnadóttur, Magnúsi Tómassyni,Ófeigi Björnssyni, Ragnheiði Jónsdóttur og Þorbjörgu Höskuldsdóttur.
