Þorsteinn Helgason nam arkitektúr í Kaupmannahöfn og myndlist í Myndlistaskólanum í Reykjavík og í Myndlistar- og handíðaskólanum. Hann sýndi fyrst í Gallerí Fold árið 2000 og hefur síðan sýnt jafnt og þétt hérlendis en auk þess hafa verk hans verið sýnd í Kaupmannahöfn, Lundúnum, Stokkhólmi og í New York.
