Um 1790 var grj\u00f3ti\u00f0 hreinsa\u00f0 \u00far t\u00faninu og nota\u00f0 \u00ed veggi D\u00f3mkirkjunnar sem stendur vi\u00f0 Austurv\u00f6ll. \u00cd kj\u00f6lfari\u00f0 h\u00f3fst mikil gar\u00f0r\u00e6kt \u00e1 sv\u00e6\u00f0inu. \u00c1ri\u00f0 1802 var b\u00fai\u00f0 \u00fear \u00ed 19 h\u00fasum og \u00edb\u00faarnir voru 141. Um 20 torfb\u00e6ir voru \u00ed Grj\u00f3ta\u00feorpi \u00e1ri\u00f0 1836 en eftir \u00fea\u00f0 f\u00f3r \u00feeim f\u00e6kkandi. H\u00fan l\u00e1 fr\u00e1 Reykjav\u00edkurb\u00e6num vi\u00f0 su\u00f0urenda g\u00f6tunnar a\u00f0 upps\u00e1tri \u00ed Gr\u00f3finni. Vi\u00f0 su\u00f0urhluta A\u00f0alstr\u00e6tis voru kl\u00e6\u00f0a- og tauverksmi\u00f0jur Innr\u00e9ttinganna en nyrst voru verslunarh\u00fasin. <em>Vesturgata <\/em>var \u00e1\u00f0ur\u00a0 nefnd <em>Hl\u00ed\u00f0arh\u00fasast\u00edgur<\/em> og <em>L\u00e6knisgata<\/em> en eftir henni l\u00e1 lei\u00f0 vestur \u00far b\u00e6num a\u00f0 Hl\u00ed\u00f0arh\u00fasum og fram \u00e1 Seltjarnarnes. <em>T\u00fangata <\/em>var \u00e1\u00f0ur nefnd<em> Landakotsst\u00edgur <\/em>og<em> l\u00e1 <\/em>\u00ed vestur fr\u00e1 A\u00f0alstr\u00e6ti<em> a\u00f0 G\u00f6tuh\u00fasum <\/em>og<em> Landakoti<\/em>,<em>\u00a0 <\/em>sem hvor tveggja voru fyrrum hj\u00e1leigur Reykjav\u00edkur. Nafn g\u00f6tunnar v\u00edsar \u00ed g\u00f6mlu t\u00fanin sem gatan l\u00e1 um, Ullarstofu-, G\u00f6tuh\u00fasa- og Landakotst\u00fan. <em>Gar\u00f0astr\u00e6ti <\/em>f\u00e9kk nafn sitt af g\u00f6mlum grj\u00f3tg\u00f6r\u00f0um sem l\u00e1gu \u00e1 b\u00e6jarm\u00f6rkum Grj\u00f3ta og G\u00f6tuh\u00fasa. <em>Fischersund <\/em>h\u00e9t \u00e1\u00f0ur<em> G\u00f6tuh\u00fasast\u00edgur<\/em> og l\u00e1 fr\u00e1 A\u00f0alstr\u00e6ti vestur a\u00f0 G\u00f6tuh\u00fasum. Nafni st\u00edgsins var breytt \u00ed Fischersund til hei\u00f0urs Waldemar Fischer kaupmanni sem stofna\u00f0i styrktarsj\u00f3\u00f0 handa f\u00e1t\u00e6kum ekkjum, f\u00f6\u00f0urlausum b\u00f6rnum og efnalitlum ungum m\u00f6nnum \u00ed Reykjav\u00edk og Keflav\u00edk \u00e1ri\u00f0 1888. \u00deetta er eina gatan \u00ed Reykjav\u00edk sem er kennd vi\u00f0 danskan kaupmann. <em>Mj\u00f3str\u00e6ti<\/em> var \u00e1 t\u00edmabili nefnt Brekkust\u00edgur \u00fear sem \u00fea\u00f0 l\u00e1 framhj\u00e1 torfb\u00e6num Brekku sem st\u00f3\u00f0 \u00fear sem \u00ed dag er <em>Vinaminni<\/em>, Mj\u00f3str\u00e6ti 3.<\/p>\n<p>Grj\u00f3ta\u00feorpi\u00f0 var \u00ed mikilli ni\u00f0urn\u00ed\u00f0slu fram \u00e1 seinni hluta 20. aldar vegna hugmynda um a\u00f0 leggja hra\u00f0braut \u00fear \u00ed gegn. Af henni var\u00f0 ekki og hafa n\u00fa \u00f6ll h\u00fasin veri\u00f0 endurn\u00fdju\u00f0 auk \u00feess sem nokkur g\u00f6mul timburh\u00fas haf veri\u00f0 flutt inn \u00ed hverfi\u00f0 til a\u00f0 styrkja hi\u00f0 gamla bygg\u00f0amynstur. Grj\u00f3ta\u00feorpi\u00f0 hefur a\u00f0 geyma eina elstu bygg\u00f0 timburh\u00fasa \u00ed Reykjav\u00edk.
