Are there any borders that define where the North begins? The exhibition Is This the North? at the Nordic House showcases works by eight artists from the Arctic: Gunnar Jónsson, Anders Sunna, Máret Ánne Sara, Inuuteq Storch, Nicholas Galanin, Dunya Zakha, Marja Helander, and Maureen Gruben. These artists all live in the far north, in Sámi territory in Finland, Norway, and Sweden, as well as in Greenland, Siberia, Alaska, and northernmost Canada.
Is there something that unites them? Does these artists’ place of residence influence their art? That is for you to find out, by visiting the exhibition Is This the North?, curated by Daría Sól Andrews and Hlynur Hallsson. The exhibition was first shown in Akureyri at the Akureyri Art Museum as part of the Reykjavík Arts Festival.
