Duus Museum Houses is the arts and culture center of Reykjanesbær. These old trading and fish-processing buildings, located in the heart of Keflavík, now host a wide variety of cultural events and exhibitions. The oldest building, Bryggjuhúsid (Pier House), was constructed in 1877, almost 150 years ago. Over 25 years ago, Reykjanesbær purchased the row of houses and began restoring and repurposing them for museums and cultural activities. Renovations were completed ten years ago, and in 2016, the buildings were officially preserved by the Cultural Heritage Agency of Iceland. The buildings are now interconnected in an elegant way and contain seven exhibition halls. When Icelandic Times visited, there was an impressive array of fascinating and diverse exhibitions on display at this flagship museum of the Reykjanes peninsula.
