Here is a photo series showcasing the beauty of Reykjavík, covered in a thick layer of snow. Icelandic Times wandered through the city centre to capture the atmosphere. The journey ended at Hólavallarkirkjugardur, the largest cemetery in Iceland from the 19th century. This cemetery, located west of Sudurgata, was consecrated in 1838. By 1932, Hólavallarkirkjugardur had reached capacity, and Fossvogur Cemetery was established.
Despite spending a good amount of time in the cemetery, immersed in its unique beauty while photographing, I only encountered one person—a man pulling a snow sled with a warmly bundled child, who undoubtedly enjoyed the day. The city centre, however, was bustling with locals and tourists playing in the snow.
Here are some images of the snowy scene in Reykjavík at the end of January.
