He was the people’s poet of visual art. Ásmundur Sveinsson (1893–1982) believed that art should be for everyone—ordinary people of the land, and likely also for those who visit it. The Marvelous World is a new (and remarkable) exhibition at the former home and studio of this pioneering artist in Laugardalur area, Reykjavík.
Ásmundur lived here with his family in a unique house he designed and built between 1942 and 1959, a place where he found inspiration and created his art. After his passing, the Reykjavík Art Museum opened the house to the public, with extensions added to display his work in all its glory—for tourists and, perhaps more importantly, for future generations unfamiliar with the man born 132 years ago on the farm Kolsstadir in Dalasýsla county.
The Marvelous World is an outstanding exhibition about this significant creator, curated by Ólöf Kristín Sigurdardóttir.
