At 21:30, tonight August 22, a new eruption started near Grindavík on Reykjanes peninsula. The 9th since the first one at Fagardalsfjall, east of Grindavík March 19th, 2021. Today’s eruption started with a 4 km long fissure near the Blue Lagoon and Grindavík, almost at the same site as the last one, at Sandhnjúksgígar which started December 18th 2023. It is the sixth in nine months, the last one started May 29th and lasted until June 22.
