Mosfellsdalur

Of course, it would have been possible to do anything else, stay inside when it is both cold, windy and rainy outside. No photo weather. But Icelandic Times / Land & Saga made their way up to Mosfellsdalur, just north of the capital, to see and experience the atmosphere. In the valley belonging to the town Mosfellsbær, for example, there is a church at Mosfell, consecrated in 1965, a gift from Stefán Þorláksson. The church is one of the best equipped churches in the country, with an ancient brass bell hanging in the inner part of the church. The church has a lot of income from the hot water that Stefán bequeathed to the church. In addition to the church and a number of greenhouses in Mosfellsdalur, there is Gljúfrasteinn, a museum and the former home of Halldór Kiljan Laxness, at the top of the valley by the highway from the capital going east towards Þingvellir. Halldór won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1955, and is the only Icelander who has received this great recognition.
