Aurora borealis by Lómagnúpur

Lómagnúpur

There are few borders in Iceland as clear as Lómagnúpur. That’s where the south ends and the eastern half of the country begins. This mountain rises up almost 800 meters from the west side of Skeiðarársandur. From Lómagnúpur, which is a relatively easy to climb, there is a great view east over Skeiðarársandur over Skeiðárjökull, to Grímsvötn and to the highest peak in the country, Hvannadalshnjúkur in Öræfajökull. Lómagnúpur can be seen when the weather is good just east of Vík, or just west of Fagurhólsmýri.
