Just after noon May 29th, the largest eruption, in a series of five in less than a year, started near the town of Grindavík. The eight eruption in the area since the Fagradalsfjall eruption close by, which started in March 2021. In the afternoon, two out of three roads to the town Grindavík (population before the eruptions 4000, now 0), have been runned over by lava. At nearby Blue Lagoon, 800 people were relaxing in the lagoon, when the eruption started, a few kilometers away, could of course leave in safety. Veðurstofa Íslands had been monutring the earth below, Grindavík, Svartsengi Power Plant, and the Blue Lagoon since this series started, in the end of last year. The Keflavík airport, the gateway to Iceland, close by is not affected by the eruption. Iceland is open, welcoming people. The eruption affects only a very small fraction of the island, called Iceland.
