Quite often, foreign photographers ask me where they should go to experience and see Iceland if they have limited time. More often than not, I encourage them to go west, explore Borgarfjörður and Snæfellsnes, and if time permits, the Dalir region and the Westfjords. There are countless beautiful places in the West. The captivating Hraunfossar, lava fields, craters, and the Snæfellsjökull volcano. Of course, the beautiful mountains Kirkjufell and Skessuhorn. Lively fishing villages, and towns like Akranes and Borgarnes. The ancient estate Reykholt, where poet and chieftain Snorri Sturluson (1179-1241) lived and was later murdered. His major works, the Prose Edda and Heimskringla, are among the most important books written in those times. Not far from Reykholt is the Krauma geothermal natural baths and spa, and Húsafell, a sheltered and lush oasis at the innermost part of Borgarfjörður, not far from Langjökull. Enjoy your trip west.
