Venjulegir stadir / Ordinary Places in Gerdarsafn Museum in Kópavogur

An Eye for an Eye

The exhibition Hlutskipti / Fated by sisters Ingibjörg Birgisdóttir and Lilja Birgisdóttir at Gallerí Þula in the Marshall House, Örfirisey, is captivating. The exhibition, in its understated beauty, makes you think… or as stated in the exhibition program: “…our children are destined to go through cabinets, drawers, and clutter. Choosing which inheritance they want to continue dragging between their homes.”

The exhibition Venjulegir Stadir / Ordinary Places at Gerdarsafn in Kópavogur is entirely different. Raw, as a photograph is a powerful phenomenon. “So incredibly flat, just dots on a paper or screen,” says Hallgerdur Hallgrímsdóttir, one of the exhibition curators, the other being Brynja Sveinsdóttir. The photographers/artists participating in the exhibition are Emma Heidarsdóttir, Haraldur Jónsson, Joe Kays, Kristín Sigurdardóttir, Lukas Kindermann, Ragnheidur Gestsdóttir, Tine Bek, and Ívar Brynjólfsson, who, in a way, carries the exhibition.
