The Icelandic Museum of Art at Fríkirkjuveg

AN ENTERTAINING (UNEXPECTED) INTERPLAY

At the National Gallery of Iceland, the exhibition “Unexpected Abstracts” recently captivated audiences. Curated by Kristinn G. Harðarson, this intriguing showcase brought together three distinct groups of artists—eighteen individuals spanning different generations. The first group consisted of disabled artists who create without constraint, blending their unique perspectives. The second group included artists who introduced abstract art in Iceland after the Second World War. Lastly, contemporary artists interpreted abstract themes in their own distinctive styles. These diverse groups intersected in a compelling abstract exhibition, where disabled artists expressed themselves alongside some of our most esteemed abstract artists.
