Christmas Spirit in Hafnarfjördur

Hafnarfjördur is undoubtedly a worthy competitor with Rovaniemi in Finland to be the most Christmas-like place in the Northern Hemisphere. The advent season in this third most populous town in Iceland is truly magical. Icelandic Times / Land & Saga took a trip to visit the town centre and, of course, Hellisgerdi, an outdoor recreation area that is equally captivating in summer and winter—truly unique. While Rovaniemi has reindeer, Hafnarfjördur boasts lava fields and the mischievous Yule Lads´ father, Leppalúdi. I couldn’t capture him in a photo, as he’s always on the run this time of year.

Feeling festive
There are reindeer in Hellisgerdi, though much smaller than those in Rovaniemi, Finland
