The small, overgrown mountain Sáta is opposite Landmannahellir Cave at Fjallabak. In 1966, a large sheepcote was set up around Sáta. The mountain is the main sheep collection place, while they are rounded up around Landmannalaugar and Landmannahellir. It was beautiful and quiet yesterday morning when the Icelandic Times arrived; herders were rounding sheep up behind the nearby mountain Loðmundur. Around noon everything changed with torrential rain and high winds. Icelandic farmers collect 1 million sheep from the mountains this autumn. The sheep are unique; pure wild game after spending all summer and autumn in the mountains.
