Hreinn, Bær, Dalir County & Amsterdam

Hreinn Fridfinnsson was born at Bær in Dalasýsla county in 1943 and passed away earlier this year in Amsterdam, where he had lived for over fifty years. He was one of the titans in the history of Icelandic art. The exhibition Endrum og sinnum (From Time to Time) is currently on display at the Reykjavik Art Museum, Hafnarhús, where curator Markús Thór Andrésson explores Hreinn’s career from beginning to end, featuring works from the museum’s collection. In his art, Hreinn references ideas about humanity’s relationship with time and eternity with an everyday, even poetic approach. He has been and remains a significant inspiration to young artists, and this exhibition will continue to fuel that inspiration, in the simplicity of Hreinn’s art, which was so pure and yet so multifaceted.
