At Kjarvalsstaðir, the Reykjavík Art Museum’s museum at Klambratún, the exhibition Rauður þráður is currently on, a comprehensive exhibition about the life and artistic creation of visual artist Hildur Hákonardóttir, born in 1938. She was awarded an honorary artist award this year, aged 85. As an artist, Hildur has, mostly in textiles, dealt with contemporary issues and gender politics in an impressive way. Her works have gained a great place in Icelandic cultural history, as both are sharp, feminine, with a spceific thread that links it all together. Kjarvalsstaðir, where Hildur’s exhibition is, opened 50 years ago, and is the first building in Iceland specifically designed for visual art. The building was designed by Hannes Kr. Davíðsson
