The Weight of Air | Opening and Artist Talk
The Weight of Air is a new exhibition in Skotið at the Reykjavík Museum of Photography with photos by the Photographer Ng Hui Hsien. The exhibition opens on Friday 23rd of November at 12:00 with an artist talk.
Ng’s body of work The Weight of Air is presented in different forms, such as a hand-stitched artist book and an installation. Ng Hui Hsien will talk about her artistic process, ideas behind different modes of presentation and how these relate to viewers. The artist will also introduce her new work Myth, which she has been developing in the darkroom for the past year.
Ng Hui Hsien works as an artist and writer. Her art practice uses photography to explore themes such as consciousness, the nature of reality and the interconnectivity between beings; they serve as sites where the unconscious can find indirect expression. She has exhibited her work in her home city Singapore and also in Malaysia, Greece, Germany, United Kingdom and Japan.
Free admission during the event.

Ng Hui Hsien – “The Weight of Air”
Ng Hui Hsien’s exhibition emphasizes the essences of spaces and situations in relation to the subconscious in Icelandic nature.
Ljósmyndasafn – Ng Hui Hsien
Photographer Ng Hui Hsien explored Icelandic natural environments in her search for quiet.
Trained in sociology, Ng turned to photography a few years ago to fill a void that she felt existed in her life. During her artist residency in Iceland, she took walks in nature with her cameras, absorbing various sights and sounds in solitude.
Experiences such as the hostility of snowstorms and the magic of northern lights inspired Ng to create the work The Weight of Air. Rather than direct representations of landscapes, her images emphasize the essences of spaces and situations in relation to the subconscious. As she puts it, “The Weight of Air is a journey of discovery, of the hidden thoughts and emotions that surface when one tries to be still.”
Besides prints, a hand-stitched artist book of the work will be on display as well.
