Statistics Iceland has published a tourism performance report revealing insightful data that calls for optimism. In March 2024, 27,293 individuals were employed in distinct sectors of the tourism industry, marking a 2% increase from the same month the previous year. Over the last twelve months, from April 2023 to March 2024, an average of 29,337 people were employed in tourism-related activities. Hotel overnight stays in March 2024 totalled 428,197, compared to 423,554 the previous year, reflecting an increase of 5,000 stays. Foreign guests accounted for 343,061 of these overnight stays in March. Passenger traffic through Keflavik Airport increased by 18% over the last twelve months, rising from 6.8 million to 8.1 million passengers. Car rentals saw a 19% increase from the previous year, growing from 25,753 to 30,195 vehicles. Overall, tourism revenue, as reported by value-added tax returns, grew significantly by 17% in the last twelve months, reaching nearly ISK 935.2 billion.
