Heimili Hrafns Gunnlaugssonar

WHERE CREATIVITY RESIDES

Side by side on the beach ridge of Laugarnes in Reykjavík stand two distinctive houses, belonging to two men renowned for the creativity. The southern house is the home of film director Hrafn Gunnlaugsson (b: 1948), best known for the movie “When the Raven Flies” (1984). The northern house is now a museum featuring the works of Sigurjón Ólafsson (1908-1982), who is one of Iceland’s foremost sculptors and as well as a pioneer of abstract art in Iceland. The buildings are situated on an open, undeveloped area that is widely used for outdoor activities, offering an exceptionally beautiful view from Laugarnes over the blue straits of Faxaflói to Viðey Island and Mount Esja. To the west is Örfirisey, which seals off the horizon, while Sæbraut and Borgartún with their office buildings by the seaside create an urban landscape in the distance. It is a domain where tranquility and the spirit of art reign supreme.

An eternal traveller holds vigil.
These fellows have come a long way to reside on the garden of Gunnlaugsson.
