Fresh out of the swimming pool, just before dinner, my two-year-old son came upon the autumn-coloured hedge by the Sundhöll Reykjavik swimming pool and immediately started singing as he gently touched the leaves: “Yellow, red, and green, and blue,” and then looked up at the sky as he completed the well-known Icelandic children’s song about the colours by an unknown author. He had no idea that his father had been working with autumn colours all day—an idea planted by the neighbour just before eight as we were heading to the preschool this morning. A beautiful day, and there’s no wind yet, no low-pressure system that will eventually take this symphony of colours away from us in one swoop, as always. The forecast is good for the next few days, so let’s enjoy the vivid colours while we can.
