设计与应用艺术博物馆的重点是收集和保存体现冰岛设计史的重要艺术品，尤其是从20世纪初至今的作品。

从1998年开始，博物馆就陆续收到了大量珍贵的赠品。除此之外，博物馆也竭尽全力收购在冰岛设计史上具有重要意义的物品。
