A shallow pool in the deep

Hörgshlíðarlaug Pool in the eastern part of Mjóifjörður in Ísafjarðardjúp is a concrete swimming pool that is 6 meters long, 2 meters wide and one meter deep. The pool is privately owned, but there is an excellent view of the fjord from the pool bank, and more often than not, you can see seals lying on the shoreline below the pool. The pool is located midway between Ísafjörður and Hólmavík, but there are just over 200 km / 120 mi between the towns. The Westfjords are at the top of Lonely Planet’s new list of best regions to visit next year.

The temperature in the Hörgshlíðarlaug Pool is perfect. Mt. Botnfjall is reflected in the mirror-smooth Mjóifjörður.
