The Húsavík Whale Museum is a non-profit organization, founded in 1997. The museum is also running an educational program for children called the Whale school. It is expected that every pupil visits the Children’s Whale School at least four times during their schooling. In Kindergarten, in the 2nd grade, 5th grade and the 9th grade.
The museum has 11 whale skeletons on display. All the whales died of natural causes except for the Narwhal which was a gift from Greenland.
Together with the whale watching companies in Húsavik and the University of Iceland, the museum has been researching whales since 1998.
