At Gallery Port, Búri (b. 1982) presents his debut solo exhibition, Shadow Self. The show features figurative oil paintings on canvas, drawing inspiration from an eclectic array of sources: literature—especially autobiographies and memoirs—alongside Roman mythology, history, philosophy, psychology, and art history. While classical influences are unmistakably present, the artist approaches his subjects with freedom and a prevailing contemporary sensibility. This is a playful, vibrant exhibition in which the artist delves into the expressive possibilities of oil on canvas.
Búri has been a practicing tattoo artist for over two decades and co-founded and runs Íslenska Húðflúrstofan (The Icelandic Tattoo Corporation) in Reykjavík. He trained at the Stockholm Academy of Realist Art and spent an additional two years studying privately under one of the academy’s instructors, Samuel Järnegård Fogelvik.
The exhibition opened on January 10, 2026, and runs throughout the month—perfect timing for anyone interested in seeing how a master tattooist translates his precise, narrative-driven eye into large-scale painting.
