Water is a resource. Iceland is pretty well-positioned, with water management. Per capita, Iceland has by far the most fresh water in the world, or 498,000 cubic meters of clean water per capita. Guyana comes next with 344,500, and in third place is Suriname with 169,000 cubic meters per capita. In eighth place is Canada with 73,500 cubic meters, a place higher than Norway with 72,500 cubic meters of renewable clean water per capita. Of the almost 200 nations in the world, Kuwait is ranked worst, but there are, 4 cubic liters of water per capita per year, while Afghanistan is second at the bottom with 15 cubic liters. For comparison, each resident of Reykjavík uses about 155 cubic liters per year, or 155,000 liters of cold water.
Water is not just a resource that we use, both as drinking water and for heating. The waters, the rivers, are a large part of nature, not only as a shaping force, but are an untamed beauty that brings us tourists, and makes us locals travel around our country.
In recent years, quite strict regulations have been enacted into law regarding the protection of water. Because of course we have and need to take good care of this resource, for future generations. Here are some pictures of water. Pictures of water that pleases the eye, and that gives us both energy, beauty and of course… drinking water.
